Let’s give a BIG shout out and applause to:
Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for the honor of being named an Unsung Hero!
I have been a member of the Greater West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce since 2007, when I was hired by the West Bloomfield School District as their Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator. Prior to that, I had been working for the district in their Community Education Department as their Creative Services Coordinator. In both capacities I served as the communications liaison between the media and the district, producing marketing materials, news releases, video productions and presentations, highlighting the district’s achievements and supporting business goals.
I had also spent 15 years as the sole Marketing Specialist for a General Motors automobile dealership, Pat Moran Oldsmobile GMC, where I produced all incentive campaigns for the dealer. During this same period, I was an adjunct with Oakland Community College, teaching Graphic Design, Computer Design with Adobe products, and Typography.
I have been a member of the Greater West Bloomfield Michigan Week committee, for over a decade, co-chairing the committee for the past three years. I have also been a member of the Oakland Schools and Michigan Schools Public Relations Associations, the Optimist Club of West Bloomfield, and currently, the Rotary Club of West Bloomfield. Throughout the 12 years that I have been a member, I was grateful to the Chamber for their help in promoting the school district and connecting it with our local businesses. The Chamber promoted our district through trade fairs and events, and integrated us throughout the community. The connections proved to be a powerful asset, as we were able to form relationships, cultivate referrals, and enhance the reputation of the district beyond our borders.
My husband and I are proud that our daughters have both gone entirely through West Bloomfield Schools for their education, prior to college. Now, we have our three grandchildren living right here in our vicinity. Two of them attend school in our district which keeps me even more connected to the people that I considered my extended family for so long. This includes district administration as well as so many teachers that I admire and respect for their dedication to education.
I have always loved artwork and try to stay connected as much as possible by taking my grandchildren to the Detroit Institute of Arts as well as The Henry Ford Museum. I want them to experience as many opportunities as possible while they are young, and it’s such a wonderful way to share time with them. When we are not exploring outside of the home, we cook or do art projects together, which could include anything from building a dollhouse out of cardboard boxes, to tie-dying to Lego creations.
I have enjoyed staying involved in our community since my retirement two years ago. Honoring our local leaders for their volunteer work through the annual GWB Michigan Week Awards is so rewarding to me, as we showcase the strong values, talent and excellence of our community.
When I retired, I had planned to step down from the Greater West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce. To my surprise, the board asked me to remain on the board as their Ambassador-At-Large, which has given me the opportunity to still connect with our wonderful community. I am so grateful and feel extremely blessed to be considered for this position.
Thank you to the Greater West Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce for this recognition!
