Our next deserving  nominees!

Let’s give a BIG shout out and applause to:

Lois Costello!

I graduated from Albion College with a degree in Vocal Music Education K-12 in 1980 something (Yes, we watch the Goldbergs.) I began (and completed) my teaching career in the Redford Union District, where I taught elementary vocal music classes at 4 schools while working on my Master’s Degree in Education at the University of Michigan (Dearborn and Ann Arbor.)  Once that was finished, I was able to transition to an elementary 3rd grade classroom, which is where I spent the majority of my 25 years teaching in Redford Union.  Ten years ago (yikes!) the opportunity arose for me to take advantage of an early retirement-I wasn’t ready, but my husband, Keith, supported and encouraged me to go for it.  The following year my school closed, so it ended up being the right thing to do!

After a couple of years of tutoring students in the area, I decided it was time to begin another life chapter.  My love of exercise and being around people led me to obtaining licenses in 5 areas of Zumba Fitness, the first being Zumba Basic 1 in 2012.  Silver Sneakers certifications were added in 2016 and 2020, respectively.  Most of this Phase II teaching career has been spent at Orchard Fitness in West Bloomfield.  I have met and become friends with many amazing people at OF-I can say “ I GET to work out-woohoo!;” not “I HAVE to work out!”  (Lately I’ve been saying, ”When technology works, it’s great, but when it doesn’t…!” Ha Ha😊)  I am so thankful and appreciative of the support and patience the OF members have shown, and cannot wait to actually SEE them and give everyone an “air hug” in person! We are all looking forward to our new normal after this challenging time, and it has been my pleasure to offer a little normalcy to make us all feel more energized and uplifted.

Lois has given freely of her time and energy with no compensation other than the undying gratitude of her devoted students! She teaches several times a week via zoom and is always energetic, knowledgeable and fun to follow!

Nominated by Gail Thompson!
